Will #BlueLivesMatter for Robert Parker?

I hope all of the people that were bucking hard for #BlueLivesMatter come to the defense of DC police officer, Robert Parker. A black man walking, wearing a hoodie and jeans. Flashback to Trayvon Martin. Since he matched the description of a suspect, he was slammed to the ground. Parker said even though he did not resist arrest and announced that he was a police officer, he was punched and brutalized. #BlackManWalking

Thank God he didn’t have some tea and Skittles, or Parker would have been another murder. Instead, Parker is just the latest victim of police brutality. Another victim of the systematic bias in policing. Another hashtag. If the people that say Blue Lives Matter do not support their brother in blue, then it is apparent what this movement really stands for. Until then… #BlackLivesMatter #RobertParker

What Is Your Purpose?

I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say, “Because of you, I didn’t give up.”

Keep Your Peace

Our country is in a contentious time—socially, economically, and politically. This never-ending election season seems to be the nastiest cycle of all time. Hopefully, this is a fluke and not the new norm. This spirit of “making America great again” and “being with her” has added to the divisiveness within our country. I wonder how long it will take our country to heal. You have to look no further than social media to see the hate that is still present in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

So what should we do to protect ourselves? How do we keep our sanity? Let’s take the Dalai Lama’s advice, “Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.” No matter how much the trolls poke and prod with their slanderous statements and callous comments, just walk away. Stop following them. Block them. Don’t feed into their ignorance by responding. You may even need a social media vacation. Do what works for you. Just remember that your peace of mind is greater than any person in this world.

Real Love Reigns #ForeverDuncan

In a world where we see so many images of terror, hate, evil, and violence, it is a breath of fresh air to see real love. The Internet was broken this weekend by #ForeverDuncan. When Sherrell Woodward woke up on Saturday morning, her boyfriend, Alfred Duncan, had a date day all planned for her. The only rule was that she could not say no. By noon, she was engaged, and by 6:00 pm, she was Mrs. Sherrell Woodward. Her engagement and surprise wedding may not be for everyone, but it was for them. They had pre-marital counseling classes; they had their parents’ blessings; they discussed marriage. They were on the path to marriage. Although Sherrell may not have known that she was planning her wedding, I am almost certain that Alfred was taking notes about her likes, wants, and desires, and most likely it was confirmed by her family and friends who were also involved. Sherrell’s pure emotion shows that this was the perfect wedding for them and divinely written for them. It was their fate. While this may not be for you, do not speak against it, talk down upon it, or question it. Don’t halt your blessing and what is ordered just for you.

Here is the moment when Sherrell Duncan realizes she is arriving at her wedding.

Here is a beautiful montage of the day.
