If Stephon Clark cannot be safe in his grandmother's backyard, how can I expect you to be safe and secure? We have sat and talked about how to act in public; how to speak to others; and most importantly, how to act around and speak to the police and security guards. But now, how do I ask you to give up your cell phones for a beeper and a roll of quarters? What can I do so that you can live life freely and fearlessly—whether you are at home, at school, or just walking down the street?
President Trump, Congress, and the rest of our elected officials, I hope that yesterday's March for Our Lives was a wake-up call. Your jobs are on the line. Stop catering to PACs, and start listening to your community. Just look at the recent mid-term election in Pennsylvania, where it was an overwhelmingly red state, but a democrat just won. Our children are crying out for change, and you cannot ignore them. Our youngest generations created change during the Civil Rights Movement, the Women's Rights Movement, and most recently, during President Barack Obama's election. Our children will always be the change. #WakeUp
The recent shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School may finally be the catalyst for change for gun reform in this country. But, at what cost? Donald Trump has been floating around the idea of arming teachers in schools. I say floating because as we know from previous experience, Trump may later say he never said that. It seems like he may be moving forward with this because he later added that armed teachers would receive bonus pay. Really?!?! Today, I’m not going to debate whether our teachers should be armed. Instead, I want you to consider that bonus pay remark. How is it that you can suddenly find bonus pay for a teacher to carry a gun in the schools, but you can’t find some bonus pay to reimburse teachers for all the school supplies that they have to buy throughout the year?
Today, we honor the life and legacy of one of the significant figures of the civil rights movement, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Fifty years after his assassination, we are still fighting for racial, religious, gender, sexual, and cultural equality. So many communities are fighting for their civil rights. As we honor him today, ask yourself, what would King do? #WWKD

Unequal America by Aronya Waller No matter how much we protest, cry, riot, sit, or fight We seem to be forever mired by this ugly blight Infected by this dark, dank spirit of hatred and oppression Wondering if there will ever be freedom in our possession A country supposedly built on life, justice, and liberty Yet, we can't even … Continue reading Unequal America
I saw this on Facebook last night, and I had to share. Unfortunately, I do not know the original author so I cannot give credit. Yet, it was so powerful and truthful that it had to go beyond my Facebook Page. I hope that you will share this message as well. If I find the … Continue reading The Hypocrisy of Our Nation

I have not written a post since the election because it took me some time to process everything. I wanted to make sure that I truly understood what was occurring. I wanted to wait and see if Trump was going to try to unite our country, or would we the fruits of his divisiveness throughout … Continue reading What’s Next?
Betty Shelby is pleading not guilty because she said the stress of Terence Crutcher caused temporary deafness, resulting in her not knowing that another police officer was going to tase him. What kind of mess is that? Is this going to be the affluenza defense for police officers? Can the families of murder victims use … Continue reading The Affluenza Defense for Police
