Be the Change

Did you vote in the primaries? If not, today is National Voter Registration Day. Let your voice be heard. In two elections since 2000, our presidents may have been different if more people voted. You say my voice can’t be heard; look at your state and local elections, which generally have a larger impact on you than the presidential race. So many times they are too close to call during the 11:00 news and even the next day. Register today. Your voice matters. You matter. https://vote.gov

NFL Players, It’s Time to Take a Stand

The NFL made a decision last week because of its fans—the majority of whom are white men. Most of the fanbase did not have an issue with kneeling during the national anthem until Trump got involved. He found one more way to divide our nation. What was initially a silent protest about racial injustice became … Continue reading NFL Players, It’s Time to Take a Stand

Black sorority members performing a community service are questioned by police – theGrio

Is there nothing that we can do as a black person, a brown person, a minority anymore? We can’t go to Starbucks, the Waffle House, Airbnb, participate in community service, walk on the sidewalk, or stand in our backyard? Can we breathe? I know this State Trooper wanted my Sorors to act a fool so … Continue reading Black sorority members performing a community service are questioned by police – theGrio

A Letter to PJ, Marc, and Cam

If Stephon Clark cannot be safe in his grandmother's backyard, how can I expect you to be safe and secure? We have sat and talked about how to act in public; how to speak to others; and most importantly, how to act around and speak to the police and security guards. But now, how do I ask you to give up your cell phones for a beeper and a roll of quarters? What can I do so that you can live life freely and fearlessly—whether you are at home, at school, or just walking down the street?

Our Children Will Be the Change

President Trump, Congress, and the rest of our elected officials, I hope that yesterday's March for Our Lives was a wake-up call. Your jobs are on the line. Stop catering to PACs, and start listening to your community. Just look at the recent mid-term election in Pennsylvania, where it was an overwhelmingly red state, but a democrat just won. Our children are crying out for change, and you cannot ignore them. Our youngest generations created change during the Civil Rights Movement, the Women's Rights Movement, and most recently, during President Barack Obama's election. Our children will always be the change. #WakeUp

I Am a Black Feminist

Today is the Women’s March across the United States, including in Washington, DC. I also noticed that Black Lives Matters DC also hosted a separate march in DC. I asked a question to the black man live-streaming the BLM protest at Union Station why they were having a separate march, and he started his response to me with, “To the person…” No, sir, if you cannot pronounce my name, please refer to me as the woman or the lady. I fight every day for civil rights so don’t discount me or my needs. It goes beyond just being a black “person.”

The Hypocrisy of Our Nation

I saw this on Facebook last night, and I had to share. Unfortunately, I do not know the original author so I cannot give credit. Yet, it was so powerful and truthful that it had to go beyond my Facebook Page. I hope that you will share this message as well. If I find the … Continue reading The Hypocrisy of Our Nation

Will #BlueLivesMatter for Robert Parker?

I hope all of the people that were bucking hard for #BlueLivesMatter come to the defense of DC police officer, Robert Parker. A black man walking, wearing a hoodie and jeans. Flashback to Trayvon Martin. Since he matched the description of a suspect, he was slammed to the ground. Parker said even though he did … Continue reading Will #BlueLivesMatter for Robert Parker?
